About

West Sussex Advanced Motorcyclists is an autonomous club which is affiliated to the IAM, for the purpose of encouraging road safety by training motorcyclists in the IAM RoadSmart programme. We are based in West Sussex and hold our regular monthly meetings at Dial Post Village Hall, close to the A24 near Ashington.

We have a good active membership. Within the group there are 15 National Observers and we have several members currently training to become Observers, both at the Local and National Observer status. Our Observers live all over West Sussex and welcome new members from the county and surrounding areas.

IAM RoadSmart currently charge £149 (without discount) via their website, which includes the observed rides and the test as well as the first year's membership of WSAM. To join us, simply visit iamroadsmart.com and purchase an Advanced Rider Course.

By joining WSAM, you're welcome to join members ride-outs, socials and other events. Our Observers are all highly trained volunteers who give their time to improve the riding skills of others. We're all here to help.

During training, we ask for a contribution of £60 to help cover your Observer's cost of running their bike/fuel etc. This is a one-off payment to cover 6 rides, by which time most people are test-ready.

Observed rides are normally spaced to allow you to practice your new skills over a couple of hundred miles between sessions. A dedicated Observer will be allocated to you for the whole of your training on a one-to-one basis to suit your availability.

This will provide you with the training and guidance you need to reach the IAM RoadSmart test standard.

Sounds good? To join us, go to iamroadsmart.com to purchase an Advanced Rider Course. IAM RoadSmart will then notify us and we will send you the WSAM joining pack.

Occasionally, riders want to improve their riding without taking a test, but you will be brought to such a high standard by your Observer that the test will be easier than you think. Not to mention, the training is fun and rewarding! After your test, Members are able to progress within the group, maybe becoming Observers, or perhaps taking the Masters route, or even both.

We are a friendly group, with huge amounts of talent floating around, and our Training Team are active in developing both Observers and Members. For the past three years we have organised trips to Wales, staying for several nights in the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells, where we have enjoyed some great roads and good company whilst developing our skills.

As well as Advanced Motorcycle training, we encourage social events such as Ride-Outs and Nosh Nights at local pubs. We're always open to suggestions to help get the group together, so if you have any ideas, we would love to hear them.

If this sounds interesting, and you would like to know more, we have an informal meeting on the second Sunday of every month between 10:30am and 12pm at Dial Post Village Hall on the A24, north of Washington, RH13 8NS. We meet for a cuppa, a good natter, and group ride-outs.
